Mill Hill International School Thailand is committed to providing rich learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom and bring the curriculum to life. As part of this approach, our Early Years pupils enjoyed a memorable educational visit to our neighbours, The Good Times Elephant Sanctuary, where learning took place through real-life, hands-on experiences.

During the visit, pupils took part in carefully planned activities that supported both the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and early Primary curriculum outcomes. Children helped to prepare vitamin food for the elephants and had the opportunity to feed them, encouraging responsibility, empathy, and confidence. They also observed how elephants move, behave, and interact with their environment, sparking natural curiosity and thoughtful discussion.

This visit strongly supported key EYFS areas of learning, particularly Understanding the World, as pupils learned about animals, their habitats, and the importance of caring for the natural environment. Through interaction and discussion, pupils also developed Communication and Language skills, asking questions and sharing observations. Opportunities to work together and follow instructions helped strengthen Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), promoting kindness, cooperation, and respect for living things.

For pupils transitioning towards the Primary curriculum, the experience reinforced early scientific thinking, observation skills, and values-based learning, including compassion, environmental awareness, and ethical responsibility. Outdoor learning and first-hand experiences such as this play a vital role in developing confidence, resilience, and a positive attitude towards learning.

This visit not only enriched pupils’ understanding of the world around them but also created joyful and lasting memories that will support their learning journey for years to come.
